Snowmaking at Gunstock, NH
Making snow with a system using buried pipes at Gunstock. Early snowmaking systems were plagued by frequent freezeups in pipes, valves and guns. The first system with buried pipes and freeze-proof hydrants was built at Bristol Mountain, NY by Ratnik in 1964. The hydrants were set in galvanized culverts filled with cow manure to insulate them against the cold.
